The High Country Charity Ride was born over a beer and a campfire between a bunch of keen cyclists. They wanted to create an event that enabled them to ride Victoria’s beautiful High Country but also have an impact on the community by raising money and awareness. The atmosphere had to be relaxed but the riding to be hard and torturous. They come up with the concept of a 4 day tour with accents of Mt Hotham and Falls Creek while raising money for research into battling cancer.
In 2013 the High Country Charity Ride was born, 18 riders started the tour towards Bright and Omeo. Great times were had and friendships created. Hard riding in the morning followed by relaxed cold beers on the riverside was the ethos of the event, everyone had a great time and was the start of the events 10 year journey.
Fast forward 10 years and we have had over 600 people ride the event and it has become of the highlight of most riders cycling calendar. We now 3 events with 100 riders and complete most of the same route from 10 years ago. The best part of the event is the ethos of hard riding and relaxed beers have not disappeared from the ride. We look forward to seeing riders we met from 12 months ago from all corners of Australia and recite cycling stories from the past. The motivation of the ride is to cycle but also to step away from our lives and enjoy the comradery of like-minded people.
Over the last 10 years we have raised over 500,000 for cancer research via the successful Tour de Cure charity. We are very proud of the number as we have all been affected by the vicious disease and we all have that in our mind while climbing Mt Hotham.
In 2023 it is special year!! We are retracing our history by riding the route we did in 2013 with 18 riders. Champion Systems have made a special anniversary jerseys and bibs and we have partnered with Bike Bug to make the best cycling event in Australia even better!!!

I was very impressed with the slick organisation of the HCCR. The event was fun and relaxed on the surface, but everything ran like clockwork behind the scenes. It is not often that an event with more than 100 participants over four days would not have a single complaint, if there has been one then I have not heard it. I have had nothing but positive feedback.

I have worked directly with Tim Briggs for the past couple of years with the High Country Charity Ride both as a sponsor and participant. Having been involved in a number of events over the years from both a business and pleasure perspective, I can say that Tim’s professional and clear method of event organisation is well received, resulting in an enjoyable and well run event. Tim has a passion for the events he runs, which trickles down to the participants creating a positive vibe throughout the event

We engaged Bright Velo Events as our event & logistics partner for our annual Suicide Prevention bike ride earlier this year. Tim’s professionalism, enthusiasm and willingness to ensure our event was a success was evident from the first meeting we had with him. It was important to work with a partner who understood and supported our commitment to mental health and suicide prevention which Tim and his team did incredibly well. Bright Velo Events team.

The High Country Charity Ride is amazing! A stunning region to ride and with a great group who had you smiling for the entire 4 days of the trip.
The guys from Bright Velo Events do an incredible job keeping everyone safe and leaving nothing to chance. Their ride leaders sure can ride and helped our group of 5 riders (All at different levels of Ability and Fitness) enjoy their days in the Victorian Alps.
